It isn’t that your child is doing a bad job; in fact, it’s usually a sign that they are trying really hard to move their fingers to the right places. The technical term for "The Squeak" is string noise. Most guitars have metal-wound strings (especially the lower E, A, and D strings). These strings have tiny ridges. When a beginner moves their hand from one chord to another, they often keep their fingertips pressed against the strings as they slide. Think of it like running your finger quickly over a fine-toothed comb.
